You're doubly right. I should have gone to the mac forum, and I did
have Word 5.1 menus enabled. And when I disabled that, I found the
long-lost Columns item. Thanks so much.

I am trying to add a "smart" vertical line (i.e., not manual paragraph

Columns under the Format menu, and there will be a Line Between

Well, I've tried that, but I didn't get far because there is no Columns
choice in my Format menu. (Apparently, earlier versions of Word did
have a Columns item under Format.) I've checked all other choices under
Format (Borders seemed to hold promise, but didn't pan out), as well as
the other menus -- all to no avail. Any ideas?
