You may find the microsoft.public.mac.office.word forum more useful for
general questions about Word on the Mac platform.
In this case, my best guess is that you have "Word 5.1 Menus" enabled and
that if you uncheck View|Word 5.1 Menus, the Format|Columns option will
re-appear.

I am trying to add a "smart" vertical line (i.e., not manual paragraph
borders) between newspaper columns, and I can't seem to find the
command that does it.
The Word Help document tells me to choose Page Layout view, then choose
Columns under the Format menu, and there will be a Line Between
checkbox to select. (To see this yourself, search Word Help for
"columns" and check out the "Add vertical lines between newspaper
columns" result.)
Well, I've tried that, but I didn't get far because there is no Columns
choice in my Format menu. (Apparently, earlier versions of Word did
have a Columns item under Format.) I've checked all other choices under
Format (Borders seemed to hold promise, but didn't pan out), as well as
the other menus -- all to no avail. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot,
RMcC
