Re: MS Word: Update in the Author Field Is Not Retained

It might also mean Word has a bug with ODMA in terms of Author name. I think
you are missing the ODMA part. With DMS, documents are saved and opened
through ODMA. When I said absense of DMS I meant files saved to local file
system (not DMS). If the DMS was causing this problem then it would have been
consistent in Powerpoint and Excel, but as I said it is only MS Word thats
exibiting this behaviour.
Moreover this bug was addressed and fixed in Word 2002, could still be a
problem with 2003.

Thanks,
Hasan

In view of your final sentence "Yes, in the absence of the DMS Word works as
expected.", I guess that it IS something to do with the DMS.

Thanks for your reply.
I am one of the developer of the DMS product in question and I am pretty
sure that we are not setting the author (or any other summary properties)
from our code. Moreover as I said in my original email I have checked with
a
Powerpoint file (opened from DMS) and couldnt replicate the problem, looks
like a MS Word bug.
Yes, in the absence of the DMS Word works as expected.

Thanks,
Hasan

Are you sure that the reversion is not being caused by the DMS. I can
tell
you however that in the absence of a DMS, a change to the author is
certainly retained in Word 2007.

Hi,
I am using MS Office 2003 SP2 with a Document Management System.
WINWORD.exe version number 11.0.6568.0.

When I open Word Documents saved in the DMS and change the Author field
(from the properties dialog-> summary) its not saved. So to replicate:
1. Open DMS Word document
2. Click File->Properties->Summary, change Author, click OK
3. Click File->Properties->Summary, the author has been reverted back
to
its
old value.

From my search I understand this was a bug with 2002:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B317281
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323547

I want to know whether its still a bug in 2003 SP2 and if it is, then
do
we
have a hotfix for this (if yes details pls) if no pls give any possible
work
arounds/future hotfix release dates (if any).

P.S. It seems to be a bug with Word only, I have checked PowerPoint and
it
looks OK.

Thanks,
Hasan
