So I did as suggested by Luiz. Well sort of. I just went to Dell's site and.
downloaded the newest drivers for my touchpad and BIOS (because I don't have
a Vostro I have an Inspiron) and restarted my computer. Low and behold when I
opened Word the spell check once again worked. I didn't have to change the
sensitivity, but I had it right in the middle already. So just try
downloading the newest drivers and see if that works. Finally after 4 years,
my spell check works properly. Yay Luiz!

To resolve this issue, you need to:
1-) Detunning your touchpad sensibility.
2-) Install this BIOS update for Vostro 1000.
This problem occur because of the Touchpad Drivers.
i Currently work at microsoft support, so you got an answer =]

Did you receive a response from Microsoft? I'm so anxious to solve this
problem, and I suppose the hundreds of others out there are too. Fingers
crossed.

I am having the same problem with my spell check in Word 2003. It is
frustrating that Microsoft can't seem to fix this problem. I have been
working with them via email and telephone to fix this problem and no luck
yet. They are suppose to continue working on the problem next week so I will
let you know if they fix it.

Twee,
I agree it is a bit frustrating, I just reload my system recently patched
Vista x64 then loaded Office 07 patched, did nothing else and the problem was
still there!

WHY HASN'T MICROSOFT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE THAT GOES FROM OFFICE 2007 BACK TO
2003?
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE PRODUCT SUPPORT-- HUNDREDS OF POSTS REGARDING THE ISSUE
OF SPELL CHECK SUGGESTIONS BEING GRAYED OUT, WITH NO PATCH?
REINSTALLING THE PRODUCT, OS, OR DRIVERS HAS NO LASTING IMPACT ON RESOLVING
THIS ISSUE.
SHAME ON MICROSOFT!
