    Sometimes this error message is due to a resource issue with the PC. Have you
    tried closing all other apps and then working in the Word document? Excel and
    Outlook can both hog memory.
    You will probably need to go to Tools > Options > Spelling and Grammar and
    re-enable check spelling as you type.
