Systems: Mac OS 10.3.9, Word 2004; Windows XP, Word 2000
Problem: For example, in 9 inches of space, I can set the following lines of
10-point type using automatic line spacing:
Win Times: 54
Mac Times: 60 (59, really, but the 60th missed by only a few pixels)
Win Times New Roman: 56
Mac Times New Roman 56
Mac using Windows Times New Roman font: 56
Printer driver is the same (well, inasmuch as they can be the same, for
instance both systems using Adobe PDF driver or both systems using the same
physical printer). Compatibility settings are the same.
I would have thought that Word would used the same math for all four
situations, such as 120 percent. I forget the actual value I've heard, but it
doesn't matter.
This is more of an observation than a how-do-I-fix it, unless there is a
certain compatibility setting I should be aware of (as I said, the docs are
all the same, but perhaps a setting could address this). The project that
caught my eye started out as all automatic space. I could not change it to
fixed for a number of reasons, so I used "at least".
