The article you cite doesn't specify the version(s) of Word to which it is
applicable; in more recent versions, however, some fields are *not* updated
when you open a document. A notable example is the FILENAME field; see “The
FILENAME field does not automatically update when you open a document in
Word 2002 or Word 2003” at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832897
