Hmmm. Is this the beginning of a pandemic of characters gone missing from
printed output? First reported here by Pats, sabotaged "Ss". Now, absent
ampersands. What next, passed-over pilcrows, absent Alefs or Lams lost? Or
constantly creating considerable consternation, cast-away consonants?
Perchance, do you have a mischievous colleague or friend? It would be a bit
of trouble but perhaps they are formatted as hidden and the printer driver
set to not print hidden text. To check, Format Font and check to see if
Hidden is checked. and check Tools Options Print and see if Hidden
Text is selected.
There are a few other things that could be done on purpose to cause what you
describe but each would display various other effects that you do not
mention.
There are some fonts available that do not contain some punctuation or
certain glyphs. Some are just alpha-numerics (letters a-z, numerals, 0-9 and
. and , and little more). However, if this were the problem, the document as
displayed on the monitor would also be missing the same character. To
check, try reformatting all text with a core font, say Arial if that is what
you see.
Let us know more details.
Are all fonts affected? Are all such characters missing? Is the document one
you created? If not, was it created on a system using the same language
version of Word and Windows as you use?

Perhaps there should be a Usenet group for this.
