Re: Automatic numbering of figures excluding the figure text in the cr

Note that if you try to add a caption in a table cell, Word will insist on
putting it below or above the table. To avoid this, insert the caption in a
separate paragraph and then cut and paste it into the table cell.

Cross-references to captions always include the whole paragraph (or at
least
the part up to and including the caption number). To work around this,
make
sure that the caption and the "captioned" item is not in the same
paragraph.
If you want them to appear side by side, use a two-column table without
borders. Put the item in the left and the caption in the right hand cell.
Then you should be able to cross-reference the caption without difficulty.

Hi all,
Description of what I want to do: I am making a manual for some machinery
using images to explain the procedure. On top of each image I will have
numbers which I can refer to in the text. These numbers should be
referenced
such that if I change the position of the number in the text, then the
number
on the image changes accordingly.
My problem is the following: First I insert an figure text from
Insert/Reference/image text and choose Figure. Next I insert the cross
reference to this item in the list using the cross reference option. Then
Word inserts the whole paragraph that precedes the figure number as well
as
the number itself of course.
How do I get Word to only display the number while ommiting the preceding
text?
(And how do I avoid word to format the preceding text with the format of
the
caption?)

I have tried using bookmarks but they gets maees up if I change the
bookmark
itself.

I hope this makes sense to somebody and I appreciate every comments on
this.

/Phil
