The List Number styles should be linked to an outline numbering scheme using
the method described in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. It will be
a separate outline-numbered list from the headings. There is no way to make
them behave if they are all defined independently using the Numbered tab.

BTW, numbering for the List Number styles uses the numbers in the Numberedlist,
tab. The Heading styles are numbered using the Outline Numbered tab... if
this makes any difference.

If all the styles you mention are part of the same outline-numbered

combination of heading styles and list styles (that is, some of the

heading styles and list styles part of the same outline numbering scheme
thenyou make the list numbering a lower levels than any of the headings,
stillthe list numbering will restart after *any* higher level). If you have
heading numbering and list numbering running independently, you should

If all else fails, sometimes you just have to restart numbering manually
(right-click in the first list item and choose Restart Numbering).

Thanks for your amazingly quick response, Suzanne.
Ok. I did everything according to the link you posted. This makes the
Heading # styles right. The list number styles below, still do not

I have read the previous issues on numbering, but none of it seems
numberhelp.
I have five numbered paragraph styles, "List number" thru "List
styles4".
The numbering is a), 1), (a), (1), and i. When applying these
number.after
a
higher level paragraph, they do not start at the correct first
Is
this just a quirk of Word.
