Hi Tanya:

No. A limitation of text boxes is that they are in the "Graphics Story" of
the document. They are not in the "Text". So fields and cross-references
and numbering do not work in them.

You may be able to change the Text Boxes for "Frames". Select the text box
then right-click it and choose Properties. Look around in that dialog for a
button in the bottom right corner of one of the tabs that says "Convert to
Frame". Click it.

A Frame enables many of the same facilities as a text box, but it *is* in
the text layer and field objects *do* work within it.
