Re: Customising toolbars

GaiaDLC,

To clarify one point: The original post was about a custom image for a button on
the Quick Access Toolbar, and that is still not possible. What Greg's page
discusses is adding a custom button to a custom group on the ribbon itself.

Once you get past the apparent complexity of RibbonML and realize that it's just
some copy/paste, this may actually be preferable.

You can put your own custom image on a button. It is not an easy process
and you may become near suicidal in the initial process, but again it can be
done. See: http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Customize_Ribbon.htm

Jay, thank you. This is a terrible disapointment and will be for many
of my friends and colleagues some of whom rely on being able to use
multiple customised toolbars. Unfortunately for me, I had a major
crash on my PC, lost all my MS software and was unable to reinstall
it because the licensing agreement had ended. I am therefore stuck
with 2007 which has become so nannyish it's virtually not much use.

Until I installed 2007 I was able to create my own toolbars - for
example to insert accented letters in foreign languages. I can
still do this but I want to copy and paste the accented letter (say
an e acute) onto the button to make it obvious what it is. The only
way I can find to change a button image is to choose a new one from
a dropdown list - but this is no use to me.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

If you still have access to a copy of Word XP or 2003, you can use
the technique
at http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm. Otherwise, no.
