Haha. I try to research first before I ask but Geeze what a big mistake in
this case!

You did some pretty effective research but it pointed you just a little in
the wrong direction - same place, but restore the check for Typing
Replaces Selection. Perhaps that will make a difference.

Hi Everyone,
I am using Word 2003. When I select text and want to replace it with
what I type or paste from another document, the text gets inserted in
front of the selected text, then I have to delete the text. I keep
hitting my insert key and that seems to toggle the function off but it
keeps reverting back to inserting instead of replacing. I looked around
in the help file and found in the Tools/Options/Edit Tab, the Overtype
mode checkbox. This is unchecked. I check the box and my procedure
works once again but the setting keeps getting unchecked if I close and
then reopen word. My other check boxes stay checked but this one won't.
BTW, is this a new thing with word 2003? If so, what's the rationale?
I am thinking most people expect when they select text and type over it,
the old text should be deleted instead of moved aside.
Thanks,
Linda
