FWIW macropod's tip should also work with DATABASE fields, as you have probably discovered.
Otherwise, AIUI,
a. the text formatting in DATABASE table results is based on the document's Normal paragraph style. If the entire document should be in Verdana, you should probably change the font of the Normal style to Verdana anyway.
b. the checkbox for "font" in the autoformat dialog is really to select the font characteristics that are actually applied in the autoformatting, such as bolding - I don't think any of the autoformat styles actually selects a different font.

Hi,.
I currently use Mail Merge "Database" Field to read from a CSV file
which will produce in a table (or a grid) in the word doc. I found
that regardless what format I used, the generated table (or the grid)
is always "Times New Roman" font.
For example, after I inserted "Database" field in the word doc before
I ran Mail Merge, I changed the font of the sample grid in the word
doc to different font. Then I ran Mail Merge and the generated doc
which had the final table gird was shown in Times New Roman.
I also tried to use different " Table AutoFormat". The end result is
still always "Times New Roman". There is an option of "Font" in "Table
AutoFormat" and I don't see any difference by selecting it or not.
My ultimate goal is that my base document is using "Verdana" and I
need to make whatever Table (or Grid) produced by this "Database" Mail
Merge field to be in the same font for consistency. But it seems that
no way of making this work.
Can you advise?
Many thanks
