Hi Phil,
The 'draw here' box sounds like it might be a Word drawing Canvas. You can turn off having a drawing canvas created when inserting
a shape or picture from Tools=>Options=>General. When you need a Canvas, it's still available from Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing
Text boxes within a Drawing Canvas can be linked to text boxes outside of a drawing canvas. (You can drag a text box from a Drawing
Canvas back into the document body and if you clear the canvas be sure to click that area to highlight the canvas then delete the
canvas if you're not going to use it). If the 'create link' icon is lit on the Text box toolbar then there isn't anything to unlink
(i.e. you shouldn't see the link and unlink icons both lit at the same time). Be sure you're clicking on the extra border around
the textbox (cursor pointer should change to a four headed arrow when you're over it) to use the linking tool.
If you add a new text box can you then link to it from the existing one? Occassionally the underlying link references get glitched
a bit. Sometimes saving as a Word Web document then resaving back to a .doc file will reset them (new file name).

I am amending a long document that contains drawings. I deleted a whole page
of drawings and started to redraw. I selected text box link so that I could
duplicate a series of text boxs. Now I cant break the text box link. I have
followed the instructions by didging on the first tex box that has to be
duplcated which brought up a shaded area around the box and got the text box
tool bar displayed. However, the "break text box link icon is greyed out and
will not respond. The create text box link is fully displayed. Also when I
select Text Box to draw on the page I get a shaded sort of frame that is only
partialy displayed with a greyed out message that says draw here. Can anyone
help.
Thanks
