That quoted advice from me is intended for Word users who can't see graphics on the screen, but not for Word users who can't see graphics on the printed output.
In your case, the problem is likely that you have positioned the graphic too close to the edges of the page. Most printers have some amount of nonprintable area along each side of the page. Some printers have larger nonprintable areas than others. Try repositioning the graphic farther away from the page edges.

This problem is obviously very prevalent after finding it in this forum so abundantly. Microsoft should fix the problem once and for all -- issue a patch or something. I have been through 2 weeks of utter turmoil with my computer over this issue, including being locked out of my computer. This involves an open case with Microsoft.
My Word invoices (template from the Microsoft website) that include a .gif graphic file won't print the graphic or text in the very upper portions of the document. I have an HP 5510 all-in-one Deskjet and am running XP Home Edition. The doc looks fine in Word and in a Print Preview. I spent 7 hours on the phone with HP yesterday trying to get them to fix the issue. After trying numerous unsucessful remedies (including locking me out of my computer completely which resulted in 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft), HP finally told me that it has to be a Microsoft Word problem. My computer is already in Print Layout and was already adjusted to the all of the settings suggested by garfield-and-odie:
1. In Word, if you're working in Normal view, then switch to Print Layout view (View | Print Layout) ... are not visible in Normal view.
2. In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | check the "Drawings" box and uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box | Print tab | check the "Drawing objects" box | OK.
3. If neither of the previous suggestions fixes the problem, then try reducing the hardware acceleration setting in Start | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshooting. If this fixes the problem, then you might want to check the website of the manufacturer of your video card/graphics adapter to see if there is an updated driver available.
I tried adjusting the hardware acceleration also, and it did nothing at all to help the situation.
I have to add that this problem did not start until a couple of weeks ago -- it is 2/5/06 today, so it is not a video card/graphics adapter or driver issue.
Also, when I send the document to myself at work, the file prints and looks fine.
What else can be the problem except something that Microsoft must fix?
Thanks so very much!
