Can't read equations or picture inserts

    Office 2000 standard
    Word 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1)

    Associate sent me a word doc with embedded picture and equation. The object boxes are drawn but the content appears to be empty. Sender claims to have created these objects in Word 2000.

    On the inserted picture object, selecting edit picture gives an apparently empty box.

    On the inserted equation, selecting open or edit works and I can see the content, but closing does not make the equasion readable.

    Can't find a relevant issue in technet or MS Word support.

    Similar behavior on XP Pro, OfficeSP, word 2002

    Any ideas?
