Re: Word 07 Crashes

Continued from below. I took a chance and deleted the whole DATA folder
although the reference information does not indicate that specifically (maybe
for a more advanced user -- such as yourself ---- the implication is there.)
and it worked. Word 07 simply whistles now. Thanks for directing me to the
information.

of instruction. Message sent is not always message received - Communication

Please, do forgive my ignorance, but I did not glean from the text on the.
reference page just how to delete the Key.

It is not the toolbars key that you need to delete, but the DATA key, as I
have said in both my previous posts!

GM: From below directions: I have deleted the Toolbars reg twice
nowand completely rebooted the machine and Word is still not
operating properly. I can open a document type in it even insert
pictures, but the mouse will not select anything and the Word Options
beyond the Popular selection are still unaccessible. Ribbon
selections seem to be selectable with the mouse. On exit Word is
still crashing. Can you suggest something further?

The normal template for Word 2007 is normal.dotm (the reference to
normal.dotx is erroneous, but the webmaster is not in a position to
make changes for the next few months). However it was the data key
in the registry that I specifically referred you to as the most
likely culprit. The page refers to another page via a link to
explain how to find the data key should it be necessary.

GM: Continued from below. I restarted the machine and was able to
find the template document. I renamed it then opened word again.
good going; however, the application still did not let me work in a
document (edit, select, etc.) and the options list is behaving the
same as before only now it crashes when i attempt to close the
document.

GM: I visited your site and was able to launch word using the run
string provided. However, I am unable to find the normal.dotx
template referenced. I performed a search on the "computer" using
the *.dot? perameters given. I am convinced the problem is with
the template document since word launched fine using the run
command. soj

I just updated my laptop (32 bit system) with vista ultimate from
Home premium. After the update was complete my office 07 is
acting funny. Word especially is nonoperable. It launches but
will not display documents. In addition the word options are
completely unavailable - the Popular screen displays and I can
make selections there, but cannot access any other listed option.
does anyone have any idea what is happening. All updates for
Vista and Office have been installed including SVP 1 for the
office. Sojourner
