Word 2007/2003 file name length

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Is there a way to restrict the length of word file save names? We have a few users who allow word to create the file name and in many cases the file name length is over 100. It is causing problems when other applications have to deal with those files. Is there any registry setting which can restrict the length to a reasonable number?
