Found it! Already there, on my laptop (hidden :-) !! Via a community blog:
"In Windows XP (Home and Professional) you can open the Character Map utility
by selecting Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character
Map. That will open up the character mapping utility that you see in the
screen capture below. If you're following along at home, set the font to
Webdings from the menu at the top of the window." All the symbols are there
(incl all Wingdings/Webdings) w/i Character Map.

tks

If you have already investigated all the fonts in the Insert | Symbol
dialog, then what you are requesting is additional fonts. Fonts are
everywhere; many are installed with all versions of Office and Windows
(including several, such as Symbol and Wingdings and Webdings, that consist
entirely of symbols), and many other applications add additional ones. If
these are not adequate, you can google for "free symbol font" and find many
more.

Am a Word2003 user (previously w/WinNT, now XP), and I want/need to
acquire/buy/get/somehow additional "Symbols". My previous workstation had
TONS via MS on our company server; now where I am the standard 2003 pkg
has
relatively few. Does anyone know where to get? I've lookd everywhere I
could
think. MS wants $50 just to answer an e-mail. tks
