Text boxes, by default are inserted with their layout property set to 'in
front of text'. You can draw text boxes (draw command is at the bottom of
the Insert Text box dialog) to overlap one another and you can use the extra
commands on the down arrows adjacent to the bring to front/send to back
commands to move individual boxes back and forth with respect to their
neighbours (Text Box Tools tab).
What you can do with text boxes, with respect to text wrapping and
subsequent layering you can do with inserted graphics (which by default are
inserted in line with text) if you change their layout properties. With
signatures, if you use a graphics application (SnagIt will do it easily) and
you save as GIF format, you can set the background colour of your signature
image to be transparent so that you can overlay it on text and see through
the signature to the text or (say) line underneath.

Thank you so much. I could get one signature to work but not the
other 2 and your advice re: text box works brilliantly!. Can you
please help regarding layering on new 2007 word?

Put the picture in a text box (without a border if preferred) text
boxes can be layered to give the effect you seek.

My frustration with Microsoft 2003 is not being able to insert
photos into a document, and then move them on top of a text box, or
half on the text box and half on the document, as I used to be able
to do with the Milennium software. This is so extremely
frustrating, since I do Newsletters and can't put visuals in as I
used to do. There is no flexibility of moving these photos around
the page. If you go to a text box, it goes behind it and I have no
way to get it to drift over the text box. I have to insert the
photos into the document itself, or I have to click inside the text
box and it goes in there and won't budge - there's no control over
it. When it's in the text box, you can't choose any of the photo
options, i.e., tight, behind, etc. Any experience with this?

Up until about 2 months ago, I could insert e-signatures (saved as
.bmp and .jpg) into my word documents with no problem. I would
insert it as "photo from file," format it, send it behind the text
and I was good to go. Now, all I get is a box. If I click on "edit
photo," the signature shows up, I copy it, and then paste it where
the box used to be. I have no idea what setting has been changed to
make it do this. I just recently had PhotoEditor put on my
computer, but I can't say for sure that it started after that.
