<<Overtype mode in Word does not affect other applications.>>
I started to write a contradiction to this statement but luckily tried it
first. I'm not sure I understand *why* this is the case, but even toggling
OVR in Word using the Insert key (as opposed to double-clicking OVR or
changing the Options setting) in fact does not affect, for example, Outlook
Express. I have to be in an OE window (such as the one I'm typing in now)
when I toggle INS for it to affect my OE message. Weird!

The Insert key is the only built-in shortcut for Overtype mode. You
can remove that shortcut in Tools/Customize/Keyboard. Click on All
Commands in the categories window, then scroll down to Overtype in the
Commands window. Click on Insert in the Current Keys box and click
the Remove button.
Overtype mode in Word does not affect other applications. Perhaps you
have another keylogger application running in the background that has
shortcut keys assigned to this command.

Often when I am using Word (and other apps as well) my computer (Lenovo

decides to go into Insert mode, which lights up the OVR (0verstrike)
indicator on the Word taskbar. This means that anything I write
overstrikes
existing text.
I have never wanted my computer to do this, and i can't see when i would
ever want it to do this in the future.
I can't be hitting the insert key, as it is away from the letters i use,
but
I guess either I am hitting some command combination by accident, or Word
2003 is anticipating that i want to use the overstrike mode.
Can i disable something so that this overstrike function never occurs?
