Re: How can I keep the ruler on screen?

I had the same problem with the ruler until it was finally made clear to me
that the problem was that I had turned off the ruler in Print Preview. As a
result, every time I switched to Print Preview, even though the ruler might
still be displayed when I closed PP, the next time I started Word, it would
not be displayed. Once I changed the setting in PP, the problem disappeared.

You can change the default tab spacing, though the tab settings are in terms
of inches or centimeters, not "spaces." In the Tabs dialog, choose the
desired spacing and click OK.

You can't change the default space between table columns (which in Word 2000
and above is expressed in terms of left and right column margins), but in
Word 2002 and above you can modify the default margins of one or more table
styles. In the Style dialog, choose, for example, Table Grid, and click
Modify... In the Modify Style dialog, choose Format | Table Properties. On
the Table tab, click Options..., change the left and right margins, and OK
out of all the dialogs, making sure to check the box for "Add to template"
if you want this change to affect all new documents.

I always used to see the horizontal ruler at the top of my document. I now
have to click it on every time I open a file. Also, it there any way to
make
3 rather than 5 spaces the default sitting for the tab marker, and making
narrower the space between brtween columns? Such options should be
available, should they not?
