I misunderstood - I thought you DID NOT want to show the Hidden Text, ever.
If I remember correctly, that option can be set by Policy. Did your IT department install Office 2007 using an SMS installation point? If so, you probably need to discuss with whoever did the installation. When something is set by policy there are typically two options. The first is that the ability to make the change is completely grayed out and unavailable. The second is that you can make the change on a Word session by Word session basis. So every time you restart Word, the policy is re-enforced.

means if the Option to "Always Show Hidden Text" is checked. Clicking the
Show/Hide button or Ctrl+Shift+* does not turn off hidden text if the option
button is still checked. And the basic root of the problem is that Word is
re-checking the option to "Always Show Hidden Text" on its own, after we
un-check it.
