thanx.
i did highlite and copy and paste but the pasted character was not the
copied character.
I copied the A and it pasted as (
the A i copied was in a different font from normal. it had no mark above
but appeared a hair lower.

Take a closer look at that upper-case A. I'll bet it has some kind of
an accent mark (diacritic) above it. Use Control+H again; this time
COPY the "A" that you don't like and Paste it into the Find line. Then
put your parens into the replace line. And fire away!

BTW, once you get the substitutions figured out, you can record them
as a Macro and run it on any future documents of this kind.
