Re: Speech Recognition for Word 2007

Hi Yash,

As Patrick mentioned the Windows folks reclaimed (or the Office team dropped) ownership of the Speech Recognition features that
Office had distributed in Office XP and Office 2003.

Unfortunately, the Windows XP team has apparently didn't do anything with that except 'own it'. If you have Office 2003 still
installed that Speech/dictation capability may still function in Word 2007. The 5.1 Speech SDK download will, separately, put in
the ability to dictate text into Word 2007, but it doesn't seem to enable the command mode so you may need to still do all of the
menu/navigation tasks with the keyboard and mouse.

In Windows Vista, the Windows Dictation feature should pickup that capability in Office as well as in other parts of Windows. The
Vista speech version adds a few features but also took away a few.

Third party solutions, such asthose from http://nuance.com may be a more reliable approach.

You can use the feedback tool from the link below to send opinions, likes, dislikes, and bugs for Office 2007 directly to the MS
Office Product team. Be sure to include how a feature addition or deletion specifically impacts you (i.e. have to buy another
product to make up for the removal of a feature, or have to spend time to train another product, or will be considering other 3rd
party products for other functions as well, etc.)
