You could bookmark the text and use cross-references to the text of the

I want to reference a piece of text throughout my document. Currently, I'm
doing this by inserting a custom document property (files | properties |
custom | add field name/value) and referencing that field name in the
document. But adding variables and changing them is cumbersome.

What I'd like to do is the following:
1) highlight selected text I want to use as a variable within the
document.
2) reference that text at various places throughout the doc
3) When I change the selected text, the referenced text would also be
updated (okay if I need to do that "update field codes" thing)

For example, I have this document:
-----
Procedure owners table:
Analyst: Mark
Programmer: Jeff
Operations: Joe

"When completing the load, please send the results to [Analyst] for review
before sending to [Operations]. Contact [Programmer] or [Analyst] if there
are any issues with the load."
----

I want the doc to say :
"When completing the load, please send the results to Mark for review
before
sending to Joe. Contact Jeff or Mark if there are any issues with the
load."

If I change the above table of names, then I can do a quick update to
change
the text.
