Re: Inserting text with a style

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Actually... a style *can* contain text. But, it's really perverse. The user
wants a bullet, followed by text. Assuming he wants:

* Verify the preceding point by

to begin each "bulleted" item, he can modify a *numbering* style.

Copy the desired bullet character to the clipboard.

Format - Styles and Formatting - New Style. Give it a name like "Verify".

In the New Style dialog box, choose Format - Numbering - Numbered tab.
Choose numbering style you will NOT want to be using otherwise, and click
Customize. Paste the bullet character from the clipboard into the Number
format field, followed by a space and the text "Verify the preceding point
by". Click OK. Back in the New Style dialog, do any additional formatting
you need; click OK.

Now, when you apply that style, you'll get something like what you want. You
will need to adjust the Number Position and Text Position settings in the
Customize Numbered List dialog to get exactly the right spacing. But... it
can work.

Better still, years from now, it'll drive anyone else nuts trying to figure
out where the words "Verify the preceding point by" are coming from. :-)
