Word 97, timing out issues before doing a SAVE AS?

Windows NT, Word 97. This issue just started about 3 or 4 months ago. I
will be typing in a new Word document and will lose it completely UNLESS I do
a Save As within a couple of minutes of creating the document. Any one else
experiencing this issue? Thank you.
