I am a tad puzzled by your question. Word does not have any virus checking
mechanism and does not need to see the anti-virus application. It controls
macros by switching them off.
Norton AV has an Office Plug-in which integrates with Word and can cause all
kinds of problems. It is usually best switched off. My guess is that when
you uninstalled Norton the office plug-in component was not removed from
your PC and is still there wreaking havoc. Norton's programs are notoriously
difficult to get rid of and some would see them as almost as bad as the
viruses they are there to handle.
Search for the errant component OFFICEAV.DLL file on your system (include
hidden and system
files/folders) and if present note the directory path where it is located.
Close all
open applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the Open dialog
box, type the command (including quotes):
Regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"
Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click on
OK. You only have to run this command once (not every time you restart your
computer). You should get the message: "DllUnregisterServer in
C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."
You can then remove the DLL from the folder.
