I guess I didn't make myself clear. I can open
normal.dot as you directed. But when I change it and try
to save it, it won't let me save in the "Applications
Data\Microsoft\Templates" directory. None of the above
path is available.

>Which is why I said to double-click the normal.dot file
in the Explorer search results pane. If you insist on
opening it from Word, then use Windows Explorer to remove
the "hidden" attribute from the normal.dot file and the
folder it is located in (right-click on the file/folder,
left-click Properties | General tab | uncheck
the "Hidden" box).
