Re: WORD gone.

It is impossible to tell at this distance what damage has been done by the
virus activity and the action of the AV software in controlling that. If
system files have been affected then it is entirely possible that your
office installation (or worse) is corrupt.

You say that the system is trying to install *Windows*? You need to search
the *exact wording* of the error message and if necessary ask about the
problem in a Windows forum dedicated to your flavour of the operating
system. If the Office installation is corrupt, you should reinstall it from
the original installation CD.

If the damage is really bad, you may have no alternative but to save your
salvageable data and reinstall Windows and your applications. If that
becomes necessary, you should take the opportunity to re-appraise your
system security and habits to ensure that the chances of such virus
infection are minimised.

Maybe it was the virus scan (Avast) yesterday that showed a virus or
two, and they were handled as directed. This is not uncommon. It has
happened before with no effects on the computer.

But today I could not access my XP Office Word files. The pop-ups
indicate that the system is trying to install windows. It cannot,
and then tells me to install Word.

Tried System Restore, but it doesn't work either. My system cannot be
restored. I need help.
TIA
