If you have the Works add-in for Word installed, that add-in is known to
clear the clipboard on Word's startup. If that's the culprit, it's best to
remove the add-in, because it causes more trouble than its benefits are
worth. Soem other add-ins may cause the same symptom. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm for
advice.
