Thanks Doug, I actually found this post on the MVP site a few minutes before
I saw your message, I tried the reg keys but they failed to correct the
problem.

I found that by doing the "winword.exe /a" command this enabled the menus to
work but this did not fully solve the problem, as without using the /a
command the problem still exists.

As a work around for my user I have created a shortcut to Word with the /a
command so that he can use word as normal, however I still need to find a way
to make a permanent fix so that I no longer have tho use the /a command.
