It is possible the file is corrupt. Depending on the level of corruption, it may or may not be possible to salvage something of it. If you send me a copy of the file, I will take a look at it - no promises, though.

No this didn't help because the person who sent it cannot open in word
97-2003. She want me to convert it for her, but now it's giving me an error
when opening.
What do I do? I have done almost everything.

Hi folks,
I'm trying to open a .docx file in Word 2003, and get this error
"There was an error opening the file". Real descriptive eh? There are
no more details at all. I have downloaded and installed the office
2007 converter, I have updated office 2003 to the newest service pack,
as well as installed all the winxp updates available. I have tried re-
installing the converter after this. I have tried, what some have
suggested, checking the box in the options -> general tab to have the
conversion prompt appear, but none of these have worked. The same
error keeps appearing. I'd be happy to offer any more information if I
haven't included it here. Any help or suggestions that anyone can
offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time.
