Re: Text selection stops working

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Terry

In Safe Mode :

- I can switch applications while using word and the mouse works fine
- I can open two or more documents simultaneosly.
- I believe in justice again

Inspired by this, tried recovery actions recomended by microsoft.
For example (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005)
It says
...."" You can use the following three methods to repair or to reset Word
files and values:
Method 1: Use the "Detect and Repair" feature -- (done)
Method 2: Repair Word in Maintenance Mode Setup --- (done)
Method 3: Reinstall Word (Office)" (not yet.)
""...

Oher actions taken:
I tried to find Normal.dot in "C:\Documents and
Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates",
Only found Normal.dotx.
I actually deleted normal.dotx, restarted Word but this file was never
regenerated.

Safe Mode is like heaven , but Normal Mode is the same problem.
What else can i do ?

Thanks.

Please do the following Safe Mode test. From Start | Run (or Winkey+R), type
in

winword /a

and press ENTER. Are you able to open two or more documents now? Does the
mouse work now?

Hello Terry

I did just what you told me, delete DATA key, restarted word, DATA key
was
recreated but nothing changed.

I noticed another weird behavior, i can´t open two or more documents
simultaneosly. I have to open and edit documents one by one.

The problem of text selection with mouse, remains.

Thank You

Sounds like a corrupt registry DATA key.

Run Regedit and delete the following Word DATA key. Word will
automatically
create a new key when it is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Im having this problem everyday.

Working with Word documents, switch to any other application and
when i return to the document, the mouse selection over the text area
doesn´t
work any more.
Mouse clicking over the menu, or scrolling page still works but i can´t
move
the pointer over the text area or perform text selections.
The text editing operations still work if i use keyboard arrows, but
mouse
selection dont.

The only solution is to restart the application and avoid switching to
any
other application during the edition.

Im using Office 2007 and Windows XP Professional w/SP3.

Thanks
