Further info on printing problems
When i click File Print I am returned to the document with no response
printer wise
When i click the Quick Print button i receive following error
Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup
Show Help>
This error can appear if a default printer has not been designated or if the
application is unable to locate an existing default printer. To correct this
problem, try one of the following in Microsoft Windows:
If a printer is not available in the Print dialog box, add a printer.
If the application cannot find an existing printer that is already
installed, set the printer as the default printer.
If a default printer is installed but the application is unable to use it,
uninstall the printer driver, and then install the latest version of the
printer driver.
If the printer is on a print server, make sure the printer is available, the
network is functioning, the server is not stalled, the printer is not out of
paper, or the printer is not suspended by the administrator. Printing issues
associated with a network printer are best handled by your local network
administrator.
For more information about setting up and troubleshooting printer
connections, see Windows Help and Support. (Click the Start button, and then
click Help and Support.)

The printer i am trying to print to is a network printer. I have tried
removing it and readding it. It is in my printer control panel, shows as
default, and can be printed to from other applications

Outlook 2007 no longer uses Word as its email editor, so double-clicking an
attachment in Outlook is just a red herring as it doesn't open Word.

This sounds more like an arrant add-in is at work. I suggest removing all
add-ins and testing to see if that removes the problem. See how to find
add-ins

Ive just started having this problem myself

So far i can confirm its not antivirus, firewall, BCM or firefox which is
causing the issue

Its possible it has something to do with printer drivers as i can no
longer
print from word.

However as background i have had Vista ultimate and office basic loaded on
this pc with the same printer for the last 12 months without issue

The problem for me started with double clicking an outlook attachment.
Since
then i have no longer been able to double click a word file from anywhere
in
windows explorer or outlook without getting the error message. Right click
and open with word gives me no error message but word opens without the
file
opening and then freezes
The only way i can access a file is to open word. then use the File>open
dialog

I have tried the following steps so far
I have removed the network printer from my pc
Have 'repaired' the word installation
Have removed and reinstalled word
Have deleted the word data registry entry
Have deleted the word addins registry entries
Have tried the winword /r fix

So far no luck. Any other suggestions from anyone lucky enough to have
fixed
the problem so far

This Vista & Word 2007 problem has been raised by a small number of users
in
different locations but there has been no satisfactory solution.

It remains unclear why only a limited number of users have it. But for
those
who do, it is a devastatingly annoying issue - one that renders Word 2007
almost unusable.

The problem:

When you double-click on any Word doc or docx icon - or attempt to open
it
from Outlook email - it opens a blank page in Word 2007 and you see the
message "Windows cannot find C:\ (doc) Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again".

On trying a second time simply double-clicking the same icon opens the
document in 90% of cases - though there is occasionally a second failure
like
the first.

This problem means that every document has to be "opened" twice - a huge
waste of time. (though opening a doc / docx from within the Word program
works fine.)

Note: this also affects Excel 2007 - but I have used this less so am not
so
sure if it is equally.

Before you respond with solutions - please note:
This problem is unresolved ie ...
All the supposed Firefox solutions including registry alterations make no
difference.
Changing or uninstalling Virus programs makes no difference.
It is not just an issue to do with .doc vs .docx
I have uninstalled & reinstalled Office. I have doubled the PC's memory.
I
have altered every setting I can think of altering (and that is a lot).
Nothing makes any difference.

Can anyone help or suggest anything? I strongly suspect a program clash -
but with what?

A possibly related problem (and possible clue??):

On choosing to SAVE Word attachments rather than open them directly from
Outlook they save as type "All files" unregistered to any program (with
no
alternative allowed). This leads to a long-winded opening or renaming
process
afterwards.

Any help ... please?
