every time I open word it I get an error messaage saying it has encountered
an errror and needs to close. When it reopens it tells me there are changes
to Normal.dot, do I want to save them.
I did repair. same results.
Install followed by sp2 and 3. same results.
Don't know what you recommended, the link will not work
Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem with Word 2003. It just started yesterday. Did.
you ever get the problem resolved? I've tried everything in the Problems

It only opens once without an error message after doing what exactly, e.g..
renaming normal.dotx, deleting the DataKey, running Detect and Repair? This
will be a major clue as to the problem.
It will do this after both:
* removing the .dot file and letting Word recreate it
* removing the entire C:\Docs & Set\%username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office directory (there is nothing in there that is
critical to be saved - ie, she doesn't use Outlook and doesn't care
about any settings in any of the Office apps).
I did also remove the registry keys - well, sort of. The specific keys
named were not present. So I simply removed the entire Word section (it
was recreated the next time word was started).
