Re: Landscape pages are not faxed from Word 2007

I had a similar problem with printing to Adobe Pdf printer.
Problem:
I had a Word 2007 document of about 400 pages. The portrait and landscape
orientations are mixed within this document. Page size if 'Half Letter' a new
format I had set up which is 1/2 a Letter page size.
The landscape pages will not print in landscape format. The pages size
reverts to some form of Letter size and orientation reverts to portrait.
I had a friend use Word 2003 to print the document, after fixing the
orientation to landscape.
Inference:
Word 2007 has a problem with Landscape orientation, that Word 2003 can
handle, when printing to a virtual printer or printer emulation.
Hope someone can fix this.

Unfortunately, I don't have a way of testing desktop faxing, but my guess is.
that it is a limitation of the fax driver rather than Word. I would not
recommend trying alternative Fax utilities until you know they are
definitely compatible. Possibly you may be able to download trial versions.
Meanwhile, I recommend taking the problem to the support site for your
current fax and see if they have any suggestions or remedies. Sometimes just
deselecting background printing has been known to resolve strange printing
anomalies.

hi Suzanne and Terry
Sorry, Correction. the situation is more complex.
I have continued my experiment and here are the results:
1) one landscape section (in short "L") - ok
2) one portrait section (in short "P") - ok
3) P+P - ok
4) P+L - only one blank page was sent
5) L+P - only one blank page was sent
6) P+P+P (three P sections) - ok
7) P+P+L - only the first P section was sent
8) L+P+L - only one blank page was sent
9) L+L+L - ok
10) P+P+L+L - only the first P section was sent
so my previous conclusion (only first section sent) did happend in cases
(7)
& (10)
can anybody reproduce the problem? or is it only my system
using Vista + "Fax and Scan" + office 2007 + standard drivers
thank you

hi Suzanne and Terry
Reading your discussion I tried various combinations of portrait &
landscape.
I found that my Word faxes only the first section (nothing to do with
page
direction).
First i thought that the second section was not faxed because it was
landscape, but now i noticed that Word faxes only the first section. I
assume
that the fax driver considers the "new section" as "end of document". how
about that?
thanks

I suspect it's a similar limitation, yes, though you can at least work
around the printing "limitation" by changing the section start type.

Missed that!
I wonder then if Word thinks that the fax is a duplex printer and it
is
the limitation that kicks in for duplex printing where you cannot mix
portrait and landscape on the same sheet?

????? has already said that he can fax landscape-only documents.
It's the
mixture of portrait and landscape that the fax is choking on.

I'm not absolutely sure why this is happening, but my guess is that
you
just cannot print to fax in Landscape orientation. When you are
faxing
PDF or XML, effectively you are simply sending portrait pages to
the
fax - even though one may be an rotated page, it is still sent as a
graphic in portrait.
I think we can prove the limitation: try sending a single landscape
page
to the fax and see if it goes out.

The answer to both is yes. (my printer prints landscape and the
fax
sends
landscape only pages).
I can display the sent Fax from "Fax and Scan" sent items. it is
obvious
that the problem starts while Word sends the document to the fax
driver.

Word 2007 fails to Fax landscape pages.
My document contains 2 sections, the first section is in
portrait
and the
second section is in lanscape. If I print the document (in
Word)
to the
fax
printer, only the first (portrait) section is faxed.
Faxing this document in PDF or XPS formats is ok.
I use Windows Vista Ultimate
the fax software is Windows Fax and Scan
how can I print it from Word?
thanks
