We were behind on some Windows and Office updates for Windows XP and

included Office 2003 SP3
Now all of a sudded we cannot open word documents that we export from
our Crystal Reports ActiveX web control (Version 8). I believe the
report prints out in Word 2.0, but not sure. We get the error:
"You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier
version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening
in this version by your registry policy setting."
Since I am the network Admin I know that there are no policies set to
restrict this. I also found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922849
on MS site and checked each of the methods describe here and I don't
seem to be affected by any of them.
Have any of the updates in the last 3 or 4 months killed off the
ability to open early word documents?
Yes, this is an effect of the Office 2003 SP3 update.
There are .reg files to reverse the block in the article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810.
