Re: Word 2007 won't open files from source

I'm glad you got it sorted. I'm surprised to learn that re-registering
wasn't sufficient for your installation, though. Usually it is.

I suspected this was a mapping problem because when I would try to change
the
Default program to open Word I was only finding and getting an application
called 2007 Microsoft Office Component. I was not able to find anything
that
gave me a more legitimate sounding name (I was finding this by opening my
Microsoft Office and in the "Office 12" folder. For some reason now I was
given the option of opening it with (and setting as a default) "Microsoft
Office Word." This has resolved my problem. I don't know when this
popped
up as available. It could have been after registering in the step
recommended above, but I did not check this after my previous
troubleshooting
step (not even sure what that was because I have been trying so many
things.
either using a registry cleaner or installing a word update, but I would
have
to guess it was registering). Thanks for your help! I hope this may help
people with similar mapping ("choose default program" under "open with")
for
other people.

Thanks again!

I followed these steps, but the problem is still occurring. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks

Try to re-register Word; see

Note that reinstalling usually is *not* helpful.

I have a new Dell Vista machine which I installed Office Professional
Plus
2007 on (student media version). I installed the Service Pack 1 and
the
Compatibility pack. However, when I try to open .doc or .docx I get
and
error saying that *file locaton* is not a valid Win32 application. I
can
open the files only if I first open Word and then click Open>file and
find
it
through Word. I am not having this problem with Powerpoint or Xcel.
I
had
some help at my University cleaning my registry and I have
reinstalled it
three times now. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
