Re: MSWord2000 and Vista

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

WordPad has been included with the last several versions of Windows, not just Windows Vista. You cannot install Office 2000 without your Office 2000 CD and product key. But you can download and install the free Word viewer from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3657CE88-7CFA-457A-9AEC-F4F827F20CAC&DisplayLang=en and use it to view and print your Word 2000 files.

Hi:
I recently bought a new DELL Inspiron desktop that uses Windows Vista. I transferred important files over from my old system (another DELL that ran Windows XP) using a flash drive. The old files came over fine, but all documents that were originally in Microsoft Word2000 format are now in some other format that can best be described as gibberish.
I realize that Microsoft has gone from MSWord2000 to WordPad, which I plan to use from here on in, but how do I recover the documents that were created in MSWord 2000 format?
I tried reloading MSWord 2000 on the new DELL, but it keeps asking me for the CD Key, a 25-number/letter key that I no longer have and apparently cannot obtain after reading many posts on the Internet.
My questions are:
1. Can I change these needed documents back to a format that I am able to read, and if so, how?
2. Is there any way to obtain a product key that will allow me to install MSWord 2000 on my new DELL? I went back to my old computer, pulled up a Word2000 document and looked in the Properties and About sections of the toolbar, as per some suggestions from the Internet. I only found a 20-letter/number Product Key, which, of course, does not help.
From what I've read, this is not a new problem, but I still cannot figure out the solution. I would appreciate any assistance.

Bill
