Terry:
One of the recommendations on that page you sent me to tells me to rename my
normal.dot file to normal.old. But when I search my hard drive for the
normal.dot file the file cannot be found.
Could this be part of the problem and if so what do you recommend I do now?
Thanks.

Follow everything in the FAQ as some of the opening errors may also be
responsible for closing errors. Typically, I expect that you have a third
party add-in that is replacing Word's Close command but is incompatible with
your version. Follow the FAQ and it should find the problem.
