That particular error usually does come from an add-in. I should have
referred you to section 4 to begin with.

Thanks Suzanne. I worked through the FAQs you pointed me at and found the
answer. In my case the culprit it was an "Add in" COM called DGNBASE.DOT
which appears to relate to my Dragon Dictate programme. I moved DGNBASE to
another location and the error on opening Word 2007 Beta disappeared. My
Dragon Dictate is an old version I have not used for a good while so it
doesn't much matter to me. I had not installed Dragon for Word 2007 but it
must have picked its presence up as installed in my Word 2000
installation. I
am very grateful for the help.
