Re: Corrupted templates

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Ms. Barnhill: I am grateful for your help but you are beating a dead horse.
That box is not checked in regular or safe mode and the problem persists. I
can open old documents properly but I cannot create any new ones.

That is your problem. You must check the box for "White space"!

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately none of them help.
The "white space" option is not checked.
Starting Word in safe mode does not correct the error.
Would completely deleting Office and any registry references to it left
over
after the automatic uninstall then reinstalling help? Or is it not worth
the
effort?

Well presuming that you have a 'real' printer installed and set as the
default Windows printer, then this must be a third party add-in screwing
Word. What happens when you start in Safe Mode (hold down the control
key
when you click on the Word icon)?

Added info: Word insists on opening every new document on a 9 inch
page
length. I can manually reset the length to any longer value. If I
reset
the
page length back to the normal 11 inches Word refuses to do this and
simply
goes back to nine inch page length although the format information
says it
is
set for 11 inches. Again I have tried every conceivable combination of
deleting, renaming and copying from another computer normal.dot and
this
does
not correct the problem.

I am unable to open any new documents with correct formatting whether
a
blank
document based on normal.dot or a pre-formatted template. I have
replaced
every instance of normal.dot, erased and renamed, etc. I have deleted
the
data key in the Office section of the registry as recommended to fix
this
problem, I have run the repair on office 2003, I have run virus and
spyware
programs. Usually one of these solutions works but not this time.
This
has
been a recurrent problem in every version of Word which Microsoft has
never
fixed: why build template functions into the word processor if the
program
cannot reliably save documents based on templates?
