Is your printer locally connected (i.e.. to your parallel or USB port)?

What happens when you start in Safe Mode? From Start, Run type in

WinWord /a

and press enter. Does Word start correctly and quickly now?

I followed the steps, but there is still the delay.

The odd thing is that eventually it always opens and runs fine, but only
after a delay of about 90 seconds. I thought the delay might be the
result
of my AVG virus scanner, but even after turning off AVG the delay
persisted.

Any other suggestions?
