Re: word document lockout!!

Hi there again,

Thankyou so much for your reply, I had to read your reply several times
before I understood, but thats my fault, not yours.

Anyway, I did as you said, and once I found the menu for open and repair,
(we did not know it even existed) I give it a go.
A little chuntering later and hey presto!! success, with a report on the
repairs.

It did not like saving the repaired file and the machine hung up, the task
manager appeared and I tried to shut down >>> ctrl>alt>del and I thought I
had lost the doc' altogether, I would have been in big trouble from "madam"

Reboot and assess to damage, Phew!! the doc' now opens fine, she will be so
pleased when she gets home.

Thinkyou so much for your help, we are so greatful.

This is such a valuable resource for everyone willing to have a go to fix
and maintain there PC's and I hope you realise how valued you all are!!!

Cheers and see you later, Steve (and Beryl "madam")

P.S. the guys over on "win 98" have baled me out many times and we would not
be able to manage without you guys, hi to Suzanne B

It sure sounds corrupt. If you have Word 2003, try using File Open,
selecting the file and then using the Open & Repair option.

Hi.

On our XP machine we have a problem with a word document

My wife creates documents that are a bit like a journal or diary, made
up
of
digi' pictures with text to comment on the picture. They are usually
quite
large (cos' of the piccy's I guess), BUT we have been "locked out" of
the
last one she has created. Usually when we open a "journal doc'" the
words
appear and then the pictures fill in one by one.

With this last one the document opens with the text okay, but only the
first
few pictures fill in, if we try to print it off, or even just click on
it
we
get a message >> there is not enough memory or disk space. The title bar
and
most of the menu at the top (file. edit etc) are greyed out (some of the
items in the dropdown boxes are available, but not any in "file" as this
will not drop down at all.

I have looked to see why this is, and have a few questions>>

The documents are normally saved in a folder of their own and have a
word
icon, this one has a icon which I think means that it is a web page, and
when placing the curser on it it "says" >"stores your local web site".
This
has happened by accident. Within this "icon" folder is contained the
word
document that has locked us out. Is the document still a normal word
document or, is it now a web page?.

When we look at the document icons within the folder it lists the title,
that it is a word document and the size of it- say - 261.KB.

When we hover the curser over the icon, a box appears with more
information
including the size which now says>> 255.MB<< yes!! it now says 255 mega
byte

Why does it say 261.KB in one place and 255.MB in the info box for the
same
document.

The document in question says 535kb and then 522mb, is this just a XP
program error or something.

cheers for now Steve
