Re: Can't open a file

There is no version XP 2003.

Word 2003 documents can be opened in Word 97 or later unless advanced
features are used in the document.

Word 2003 has few features that are not included in Word 2002 (XP), mostly
it implements features introduced in Word 2002 better. There were much
bigger changes between Word 97 and Word 2000 and then again between Word
2000 and Word 2002.

I finally heard back from the lady. She had converted the file to Adobe
Acrobat for me, but I asked her what version of Word she was running. She
was
running XP 2003. I have XP 2002. I've never run into a conflict with Word
opening from another version, but the 2003 version really messes up the
works
and you can't open the files with previous versions of Word. I guess it's
Microsoft's guarantee that you'll dish out the bucks to upgrade.

I tried 2003 XP Office Pro, having spent the money on it, and I hated it.
Everything was changed and some of the features I liked were missing. I
uninstalled it and now it is worthless, as I activated it on my machine.
Now
nobody else can use it, either. (I'm not very happy with Microsoft, as you
can tell.)

She responded back and told me that all she did was type in Word, with
no
templates. She mentioned that every time she opens the file, she has
to
re-format the document because the document changes every time she
closes
it.
Any other suggestions... anyone?

Thanks.

Hey All-
I had the same problem.
Was the Word Doc created with a template?
If yes, you also need the template file, since the doc is probably
linked to the template.
