Word 2003 won't open documents and gives the error "unavailable"

All of a sudden, Word 2003 won't open my documents and gives the error "The
file is unavailable". When I close Word, it says that changes are made in
Normal and in the Global Template, do I want to safe this? Of course I don't,
since I didn't make the changes.
A couple of days office started by refusing to open PPS.
Can anyone think up a reason why this should happen all of a sudden?
