Using Word2003 as the email editor is fine (unlike previous versions). You
just have to know that Microsoft kept secret certain behaviour patterns -
such that if Outlook is open and you have opened Word, even though you close
Word, it still stays open but hidden unless the system demands greater hunks
of memory than is free to the system. This is solely a performance
'enhancement' to speed up creating and editing emails. That's why Word will
keep incrementing the blank document until both Word and Outlook have been
closed together. We have many users that leave Word and Outlook running all
day: it really doesn't matter that the blank document increments - as long
as you know why! Some users deliberately dirty the blank document so that it
never closes itself.

: This is only one of many reasons that people here recommend not using Word
: as an email editor. It generally messes up using it as a Word processor
and
: gives you emails that are not plain text.
